Frequently Asked
Questions
Do you do deep tissue massage?
I use a variety of techniques to work deeply on your affected tissues, but I don’t refer to my work as “deep tissue massage”. I use the amount of pressure that is comfortable for you & effective for your body & nervous system. Every client is different & every client’s idea of pressure is different, because of this I check in frequently during your session to see what you need.
In session you may experience a “hurts-so-good” pain which is normal, my job is to find that range on each individual.
Will I be sore the next day?
It is common to be sore for 1-2 days after a more intense massage. You should never have bruises (excluding marks from cupping sessions) & your pain should feel similar to the day after a good workout session.
After your massage, drinks lots of water & soak in a warm bath with Epsome Salts to reduce muscle soreness.
How often should I schedule a massage?
You should get a massage as often as your budget & schedule allow. In an ideal world, weekly massages are recommended.
Having said that, if you are trying to actively work on a problem region, I recommend once a week until you get to a place you’re happy with. Too much time in between gives your muscles a chance to revert back to old patterns.
If you are seeking massage to maintain a healthy lifestyle, every 4-6 weeks is common.
What is proper etiquette during a session?
When you schedule your first session, you will fill out a consent to treat form, a health history form, & a general information form. This information is used as the foundation for both client & therapist boundaries in session. I will verbally go over the regions I’d like to work on to help you meet your goals before the session begins. This allows you the chance to discuss potential concerns & areas to avoid. It also outlines any possible health concerns that massage may affect.
Every session is a professional massage, preformed by a licensed massage therapist, for the purpose of wellness & recovery, anything else in session will not be tolerated & will result in immediate termination of the massage & preventing said client from booking any future appointments.
You may undress to your comfort level, whether this means keeping undergarments on or completely disrobing. During the massage, you will be professionally draped by a top sheet & blanket. The sheets are stripped & washed after every client & all the surfaces are disinfected.
If you have any questions about what is expected, dont hesitate to ask. An open line of communication is key to proper treatment.
Are minors allowed to receive treatment?
The state of Pennsylvania states that any person under the age of 18 must have the consent of a guardian to receive a massage AND the guardian must be present in the room during the session.
My treatment room has a small chair used for dressing that a guardian can sit in during the session if a minor would like to receive a massage.
My personal scope of practice doesn’t extend to pediatric massage, so I don’t accept clients under the age of 12.
What are the benefits of massage?
Massage has endless benefits, both physcially & mentally. Massage actives your parasympathetic nervous system, allowing your body to enter the “rest & digest” state. It has been proven to: reduce stress, anxiety, & depression; improve sleep; increase circulation; boost immunity; increase lymphatic function; decrease tension headaches; decrease muscle & joint pain; increase flexibility & range of motion…plus so much more.
There are numerous styles of massage, some are geared more towards relaxation & those amazing benefits, while others focus more on the physical benefits.
My practice focuses more on the physical benefits that massage can provide such as increased range of motion & reduced muscular tension.
I’d love to discuss if my style of massage is right for you!
